Instructions: How to use a Stitch Pattern

If a crochet stitch pattern uses a multiple of 4 + 1. First you need to chain a multiple of 4 stitches. Example: 4 (8, 12, 16). Then add just one stitch for a total of 5, (9, 13, 17).

Other times you might see a stitch pattern that says. (Multiple of 4 sts +1 st) + 1. You would then chain a multiple of 4 plus one stitch and then add one more stitch to make the beginning chain have the proper number of stitches.
Just rember, that when seeing a plus sign anything after the + sign is only added in once.
